ESI stands for Employees’ State Insurance Corporation. It is a self financing social security and health insurance scheme for Indian workers. ESIC is managed by employee state insurance corporation. It functions according to according to rules and regulations stipulated in ESI act, 1948. ESIC is a autonomous body and comes under Ministry of Labor and Employment. ESIC can be accessed at ESIC portal.
The Employees’ State Insurance Act, 1948 envisaged a social security scheme that would protect interest of workers. ESI protect workers in contingencies such as sickness, maternity, temporary or permanent physical disablement, death due to employment injury resulting in loss of wages or earning capacity.
Following corporations are mandatorily required to be register under ESI act-
- Having workforce greater than 10 or greater than 20 in few states.
- Maximum salary of Rs 1500 for its employees

Different sections of ESIC portal
ESIC portal has been divided into following sections –
- Benefits – Benefits is the first major section on ESIC portal. This section entails all ESIC benefits including benefits mentioned above.
- Offices – This section on ESIC official website include details of all the offices of ESIC present in India.
- Health Services – Information on ESI hospitals, ESI dispensary, medical institute is provided under this section.
- Tenders – Information on various upcoming tenders along with eligibility criteria and dates are provided in this section of ESIC portal.
- Recruitments – This section on ESIC official website contains information regarding upcoming ESIC recruitment.
ESI contribution rate
As per ESIC act, 1948 and latest update. ESI employer contribution has been fixed at 4% of the salary while ESI employee contribution is 1% of the salary. There is no need for a ESI Employee contribution in case where salary of employee is less than 100 Rs per day. However, Employer need to make ESI employer contribution in this case too. ESI contribution rates changes from time to time. It is advised that ESI employee visits ESIC portal from time to time to be updated about latest ESI contribution rate.

Lets us see these two types of ESIC login in detail-
ESIC Employer login –
To do ESIC employer login, Employer need to visit ESIC Employer portal. Click on the Employer login tab on the ESIC website. A form will be open and it will require information like “Username or Labor identification number” along with password. If you want to provide details for employee then this can be done after ESIC login. Details like Employee family, Family members address and details of clinics or dispensary would be required on ESIC portal. Once an employee is registered on ESIC portal, a unique insurance number would be generated for each employee on ESIC portal. This unique insurance number would be required for ESIC employee login.
ESIC Employee login
An employee who has been registered on a ESIC portal is known as a insured person or a beneficiary. For each beneficiary, a unique ESIC insurance number is generated. To do ESIC employee login, an employee need to visit official ESIC website and click on insured person/ beneficiary tab. ESIC employee login form will require details like insurance number and pass word to perform login on ESIC website.
